Welcome back to our series exploring the many reasons why we absolutely love South Glengarry. Today we’re looking at one of the area’s natural treasures: Cooper’s Marsh.

Week 11: Cooper’s Marsh – An Ecological Gem in South Glengarry

If you’ve ever thought about living near a natural oasis that offers peace, tranquility, and a myriad of outdoor activities, Cooper’s Marsh is a convincing argument for making South Glengarry your home. As a realtor, I can assure you that access to such an ecological wonder can only enrich your life and add value to your property.

Cooper’s Marsh is a 152-hectare provincially significant wetland and Area of Natural and Scientific Interest (ANSI). The marsh is home to a stunning variety of wildlife and is a favourite spot for bird watchers, boasting more than 130 species of birds.

Visitors can explore the area via a 2 km walking trail and a series of boardwalks that wind through the marsh, offering exceptional opportunities to observe and connect with nature. Whether you’re spotting snapping turtles, watching the playful otters, or admiring the rare American Lotus flower, there’s always something to discover.

A personal favourite is Glen Walter Regional Park. This park, complete with a 2km paved walking trail, serves as a beautiful backdrop for our daily walks and runs, no matter the season, thanks to a considerate neighbour who diligently keeps the path clear of snow in winter.

The park’s abundant wildlife and natural beauty is simply mezmerising. From croaking frogs to sun-basking turtles and melodic birds, it’s a nature-lover’s dream. And for our younger residents, the recently installed play structure offers hours of fun.
